What is Fair Trade Certified ™ Coffee?
Fair Trade Certified™ coffee is grown by farmers with small farms who are organized into grower cooperatives. It is sold collectively for an established minimum price that far exceeds existing depressed market prices. In order for the small grower cooperative to sell its coffee as Fair Trade Certified™, it must be inspected annually by an international monitoring organization that verifies that the funds paid for the coffee are spread equitably amongst the growers. Many of the worlds’ certified organic farmers also belong to certified Fair Trade cooperatives. In fact, the vast majority of Fair Trade Certified™ coffee being sold in the United States is also certified organic. So, when you purchase Fair Trade Certified™ coffee you support two worthy causes – organic farming and fair wages for international farm workers. Fair Trade Certified™ organic coffees can be found from a number of the worlds great growing regions – Sumatra in Indonesia, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, all of Central America, and Ethiopia in Africa. They represent the entire taste spectrum of great coffee and we’re excited to offer them to you. Look for the Fair Trade Certified™ sticker on bags of BellaSelva™ Organic Coffees. |
